Prime Minister Dr Mwigulu Nchemba on Thursday, January 2, 2026, inspected the progress of construction of the Kidunda Water Dam in Morogoro Region, describing the project as a strategic investment aimed at securing reliable water supply for the country amid the impacts of climate change.

Speaking to officials after the inspection, Dr Nchemba said the project reflects the vision of President Samia Suluhu Hassan to ensure Tanzania addresses persistent water shortages, particularly those caused by changing weather patterns.

He noted that the dam is expected to significantly strengthen water security for both households and economic activities once completed.

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of timely implementation, directing the Ministry of Water to ensure the project does not stall and that construction is completed as scheduled so that wananchi can start accessing clean and reliable water.

He added that the government remains committed to investing in large-scale water infrastructure as part of the Sixth Phase Government’s broader agenda to improve service delivery, enhance resilience to climate change and improve the livelihoods of Tanzanians.

The Kidunda Water Dam is among key national water projects designed to support sustainable development and meet the growing demand for water in both urban and rural areas.
