Over 83,000 girls from disadvantaged families in ten regions of Tanzania have benefited from entrepreneurship and educational support provided by CAMFED Tanzania, an organization committed to uplifting girls from vulnerable backgrounds.
Speaking after the closing of CAMFED Tanzania’s 2025 Annual General Meeting in Morogoro, Executive Director Anna Sawaki described the achievements of these girls as a milestone for the organization. She emphasized that CAMFED is committed to continuing its support to ensure lasting impact.
“Through partnerships with government and development stakeholders, we are equipping young women with the tools and resources they need to grow their businesses,” Sawaki said.
She noted that many girls still need support in developing business systems, accessing markets, and increasing the value of their products.
This is particularly important for those engaged in modern agriculture, who aspire to expand their businesses and export produce beyond local markets.
Sawaki urged the girls to take initiative, embrace self-confidence, and value their work, stressing that personal determination is key to success.
Shamsa Mkurungo, Chairperson of the CAMFED Alumnae Network (CAMA) in Tanzania, said the organization has supported 114,000 children and re-enrolled school dropouts by providing mentorship and guidance.
Mkurungo added that CAMFED has issued 511 interest-free loans and provided start-up capital, enabling many girls to launch businesses and increase economic opportunities for themselves and their communities.
Elina Lukindo, a CAMFED beneficiary, credited the organization with instilling self-confidence that helped her secure a special councilor seat in Gairo Ward, Gairo District, Morogoro.
Mzizi Mtambwa, another beneficiary from Kilosa District, Morogoro, said CAMFED’s programs transformed his life.
“The support I received gave me training in leadership and economic skills. Today, I have developed rice farming with irrigation, increasing my income from TZS 1,000 to TZS 10,000 per harvest. I can now employ young people, helping to reduce unemployment in my community,” he said.
Through initiatives like these, CAMFED is not only transforming individual lives but also promoting sustainable economic growth and empowering young women to become confident entrepreneurs and community leaders.
