Residents of Fuoni constituency in Zanzibar and voters across selected mainland wards turned out in impressive numbers today to elect their Members of Parliament in the ongoing by-elections.
In Fuoni, Migombani Shehia residents queued early at polling stations, including Raudha B School, to cast their votes despite morning rains.
The exercise was closely monitored by the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Court of Appeal Judge Jacobs Mwambegele, who personally verified voter registration and ensured a smooth process.
Commission member Magdalena Rwebangira also visited polling stations in Fuoni Town, engaging with election officials and agents to oversee the process.
Judge Mwambegele confirmed that voting in Fuoni, located in Magharibi B District, Mjini Magharibi Region, is proceeding efficiently, with high voter participation.
He further noted that the by-election in Siha constituency, Kilimanjaro Region on the mainland, is also progressing smoothly.
The by-elections today extend to five mainland wards: Chamwino in Morogoro Municipal Council, Mbagala Kuu in Temeke Municipal Council, Nyakasungwa in Buchosa District, Masoko in Mbeya District, and Ndono in Uyui District, Tabora Region.
During his visits, Judge Mwambegele and Rwebangira engaged with election agents and polling staff, assuring citizens of a transparent and credible electoral process.
