In a major boost to education in Dodoma City, secondary schools have received 2,713 new desks, a move aimed at improving learning environments ahead of the 2026 school year.
The initiative comes as part of President Dr. Samia S. Hassan’s directive to enhance classroom infrastructure and ensure students start the year in well-equipped schools.
Anthony Mavunde, Member of Parliament for Mtumba Constituency, handed over the first batch of 2,700 desks to schools across the city, praising the city’s efforts to tackle the longstanding challenge of desk shortages.
“This is a significant step in improving education in Dodoma City. Providing students with adequate desks ensures they can learn in comfortable and conducive environments,” said Mavunde.
Dodoma District Commissioner, Jabir Shekimweri, urged all stakeholders to take responsibility for maintaining the desks so they can serve generations of students.
Dodoma City Director, Dr. Fredrick Sagamiko, said the city is committed to ensuring that every student studies in a supportive environment.
He added that the 800 desks delivered today represent the first phase of the project, which aims to complete the full set of 2,713 desks in time for January 2026. The city is now fully prepared to welcome 13,318 new Form One students.
The delivery of the desks is expected to significantly improve classroom conditions and support the city’s broader education development goals, ensuring that students in Dodoma start the new academic year ready to learn.
