Celebrated Tanzanian novelist Hussein Issa Tuwa participated in the 32nd National Book Fair held in Dar es Salaam, representing the Uwaridi (Union for novel writers with vision) in his capacity as the platform’s President.

Hussein Tuwa noted that the annual exhibition continues to strengthen the connection between authors and their readers, offering a vibrant space for literary exchange.

The exhibition booth, filled with works from a diverse lineup of writers and editors, quickly became one of the fair’s most visited spots, drawing fans of celebrated local fiction and longtime admirers of Swahili literature.

Tuwa, best known for his acclaimed novels Mfadhili a national bestseller also included in the secondary school curriculum and Mdunguaji, praised the strong turnout.

He attributed the enthusiasm to the combined efforts of organizers, writers, and the growing community of dedicated readers.

“We were thrilled to see visitors purchasing books, engaging with the stories, and eagerly taking photos and requesting autographs from their favorite authors,” he remarked.

The fair, organized by PATA, took place from November 21 to 26 at the National Library grounds in the City Centre.

Reflecting on this year’s execution, Tuwa described the event as world-class, urging Tanzanians to show even greater participation in supporting the country’s literary culture.

“You can see many international guests attending and buying books on the spot. This should inspire us, as Tanzanians, to appreciate and invest in our own works rich with the depth and beauty of Swahili literature,” he added.
