Tanzania has showcased remarkable progress in harnessing digital technology to improve health services, as the country’s delegation took part in the World Health Summit (WHS), a global platform that brings together policymakers, researchers, and industry leaders to discuss innovation and equity in healthcare.
During the summit, the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Mr. Ismail Rumatila, presented Tanzania’s achievements in developing data-driven health systems.
He highlighted the country’s successful expansion of the National Fibre Optic Network, which now connects more than 85 percent of all districts, enabling reliable access to digital health platforms across the nation.
Mr. Rumatila said Tanzania’s progress has been anchored in strong policy foundations, including the National ICT Policy and the government’s strategic integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into public health operations.
These frameworks, he said, are helping the country enhance service delivery, improve decision-making, and ensure equal access to quality healthcare.
Responding to questions from participants, Mr. Rumatila reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing digital health innovation, emphasizing that AI will play a vital role in improving patient outcomes and strengthening health data management.
“Tanzania is investing in innovation to ensure that every citizen benefits from a smarter, faster, and more efficient health system,” he said.
The Tanzanian delegation also included Dr. Peter Kisenge from the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI), Dr. Vivian Wonanji, Ms. Julieth Ngwegwe from the Ministry of Health, Dr. Neema Mrimi from the Medical Association of Tanzania (MAT), and Ms. Elizabeth Bukwimba from the Embassy of Tanzania in Germany.
The World Health Summit serves as a key global forum for shaping the future of healthcare through digital transformation, equity, and sustainable innovation an agenda Tanzania continues to champion through its growing investment in technology-driven health solutions.
