The National Sports Council (BMT), in partnership with the Tanzania Boxing Federation (BFT), is stepping up efforts to develop local boxing talent by equipping coaches with advanced training both in Tanzania and abroad.
Speaking yesterday during a ceremony to award certificates to coaches who completed the International One-Star Boxing Coaching course held online from July 28 to August 6, BMT Senior Sports Officer Charles Maguzu highlighted the council’s commitment to building professional capacity in sports.
Maguzu said BFT officials will continue working with the council to identify budget opportunities that will enable some coaches to participate in higher-level training in developed boxing nations, including Cuba, Germany, and Russia.
“As part of our ongoing plan, BMT has always focused on strengthening the skills of coaches across all sports, including boxing, by providing modern training locally and internationally. We will continue collaborating to ensure our coaches have access to global opportunities,” Maguzu said.
He added that participating in international training programs requires building strong diplomatic and sporting relations with countries abroad.
“Such connections make it easier to exchange knowledge and gain exposure to advanced coaching methods,” he explained.
BFT President Lukelo Willilo described the ceremony as a milestone in implementing the federation’s strategy to empower coaches.

He also noted that, alongside the coaches, referees and judges received international training coordinated by the federation.
A total of 29 coaches were awarded certificates for completing the International One-Star Coaching course, including renowned boxers Selemani Kidunda and Yusuph Changalawe.
Maguzu emphasized that this achievement opens doors for future opportunities and international exposure, ultimately benefiting the growth of boxing in Tanzania.
