The Tanzanian government has pledged to strengthen the sports sector to raise the profile of football and other disciplines to meet international standards.
Speaking on September 14, 2025, the Parmanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports and Government Chief Spokesperson, Gerson Msigwa, congratulated Hersi Said on his recent appointment by FIFA.
He said the recognition brings prestige to Tanzania and reflects the progress the country has made in sports development.
“These achievements show that Tanzanian sports are thriving, thanks to the government’s persistent efforts to promote and support the sector. Having someone like Hersi on an international platform is a source of national pride,” Msigwa said.
Hersi Said, Chairman of the African Club Association (ACA) and a member of FIFA’s Men’s Club Competitions Committee representing Yanga SC, admitted that he had not anticipated such an opportunity.
He highlighted that ACA’s key role is to unite clubs on and off the field, providing them a platform to discuss challenges collectively something that has been lacking in the past.
“Now, club leaders can meet and address their issues together, because we are all part of one organization,” Hersi said.
Hersi recalled that receiving the FIFA appointment during a CAF meeting came as a surprise. “It was unexpected, but I am aware of the responsibility to advance the goals of Tanzanian clubs. I am now awaiting further guidance as I have not previously worked with FIFA,” he explained.
He also revealed that he will attend upcoming FIFA meetings and promised to share outcomes with Tanzanians, ensuring transparency and engagement with local stakeholders.
Hersi noted that his ACA chairmanship comes at an ideal time for Tanzanian clubs, which stand to benefit financially and administratively.

Clubs will now have the opportunity to register as ACA members at an annual fee of $1,000. Eligible clubs include those in the Premier League and First Division.
“ACA aims to bring clubs together to collaborate, resolve conflicts, and address economic challenges preventing their growth. This is a major step for Tanzanian football,” he said.
Azam FC Vice Chairman AbdulKarim Amin Popat praised the initiative, emphasizing the tangible benefits clubs are now receiving.
“Previously, clubs did not gain much from ACA. Now, we have received $50,000 this season, with more expected. Azam FC will be the first Tanzanian club to complete the membership registration,” he said.
Popat added that ACA’s leadership has enabled four Tanzanian clubs to participate in international competitions, successfully reaching the group stage.
“We believe our teams can progress beyond the groups and even reach the finals,” he concluded.
