Mufti calls on Tanzanians to protect peace ahead of general election

By Our Correspondent Reporter

As Tanzania approaches its general election on October 29, 2025, Sheikh Dr. Abubakar Bin Zubeir Ally, the Mufti and Chief Sheikh of Tanzania, has urged all citizens, particularly Muslims, to uphold peace and social harmony.

He emphasized that maintaining stability is not only a religious duty but also a civic responsibility that ensures the country’s continued development.

Speaking to Muslim congregants in Tunduru District, Ruvuma Region, Sheikh Dr. Abubakar said that peace is the essence of Islam and a key driver of societal progress.

He encouraged Muslims to lead by example, promoting calm, unity, and respect among all Tanzanians during this critical period.

“Islam teaches us to avoid actions that cause harm or unrest in society. True Islam is peace, and the Prophet constantly emphasized it. Now, more than ever, we must teach and practice peace while defending our moral values,” he said.

The Mufti also highlighted the role of parents and guardians in shaping future generations. He urged them to raise children with strong ethical and religious foundations to combat the growing moral challenges facing society, stressing that protecting the country’s values starts at home.

Echoing the message of civic responsibility, Tunduru District Commissioner Denis Masanja called on all registered voters to participate actively in the election.

“Every citizen has a constitutional right to vote. I urge residents of Tunduru to turn out in large numbers on October 29 to make their voices heard and contribute to the nation’s democratic process,” he said.

As Tanzania heads to the polls, the call is clear: peace, unity, and responsible participation are essential for both the nation’s stability and its future prosperity.
