Tanzania and Cuba are stepping up efforts to strengthen diplomatic and development cooperation, focusing on areas that directly benefit citizens.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Chumi, met with Cuban Ambassador Yordenis Despaigne Vera at the Ministry’s offices in Dar es Salaam to discuss ways to deepen collaboration.

Chumi emphasized the importance of planning joint initiatives that bring real benefits to people, including health, education, agriculture, and industry.

He praised Cuba for supporting Tanzania with volunteer doctors, scholarships for students in health and science fields, and the establishment of the pesticide factory in Kibaha, Pwani region.

“Tanzania has gained from Cuban experts in healthcare, opportunities for young people to study abroad, industrial projects, and agricultural support. These partnerships show the power of international cooperation to improve lives and strengthen our country,” said Chumi.

Ambassador Vera thanked Tanzania for fostering close ties and highlighted plans to expand cooperation in economic diplomacy, particularly in trade, technology, culture, and sports.

The partnership between Tanzania and Cuba has deep roots dating back to the independence era when the late Mwalimu Julius Nyerere and Fidel Castro built a strong bond based on equality, solidarity, and shared development goals.
