Thousands of families in Ubungo District are set to experience major relief from persistent water shortages, thanks to the new King’ong’o Water Project being implemented by the Dar es Salaam Water and Sewerage Authority (DAWASA).

The project, located in Saranga Ward, is expected to serve about 92,000 residents across Michungwani, King’ong’o, and Kimara B neighborhoods areas that have for years faced inconsistent water supply due to rapid population growth and rising demand.

During an inspection visit, Ubungo District Commissioner, Albert Msando, commended DAWASA for its continued investment in improving access to safe and reliable water for residents.

He said the project marks an important step toward transforming daily life for thousands of households.

“This initiative brings hope to many families in Ubungo. I commend DAWASA and the government for their ongoing efforts to make clean water accessible to all. I also urge residents to use water wisely and build the habit of storing it safely to avoid shortages when maintenance or technical challenges occur,” said Msando.

Engineer Modesta Mushi, representing DAWASA’s Chief Executive Officer, said the project is being implemented with high technical standards and professionalism.

She assured that the work is progressing well and is expected to be completed by early November 2025.

Msando also toured Tarakea and Kavimbilwa neighborhoods in Mbezi Makabe, where residents have already started enjoying improved water access.

He said the development reflects the government’s strong commitment to strengthening essential services and improving citizens’ well-being.

The King’ong’o project is part of ongoing national efforts to ensure every Tanzanian has access to clean, affordable, and sustainable water a key pillar of the country’s development vision and social welfare goals.
