New EWURA Council to boost consumer rights in energy and water services

The newly launched Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) Consumer Consultative Council (CCC) is set to strengthen the voice of Tanzanians in energy and water services, ensuring better access, fairness, and accountability.

Speaking at the launch of the third EWURA CCC in Mwanza, Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Eng. Felchesmi Mrmba, called on members to carry out their duties with integrity, discipline, and patriotism. He emphasized that the council’s work will directly benefit consumers across the country.

“This council plays a crucial role in listening to citizens’ concerns and ensuring their voices are heard in decision-making processes,” Eng. Mrmba said.

 “Members must set the standard in accountability and honesty to deliver tangible benefits to the public.”he added

EWURA CCC Executive Secretary, Ms. Stella Lupimo, said the training provided to new members will equip them to safeguard consumer rights, ensure service safety, and advocate for reliable and affordable energy and water services.


Representing EWURA’s Director General, Eng. Poline Msuya highlighted the need for collaboration among all energy sector stakeholders to guarantee sustainable, high-quality services for every Tanzanian.

EWURA CCC Chairman, Mr. Hassan Minga, pledged that the new council will focus on citizens’ challenges and work closely with authorities to resolve issues affecting service users.

The launch and training of the new council form part of the government’s strategy to enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the energy and water sectors, ultimately improving service delivery and public trust.
