Edward, Ngassa tip Yanga for victory against Silver Strikers

Former Young Africans (Yanga) stars have expressed confidence that the Tanzanian giants will claim victory over Malawi’s Silver Strikers in their CAF Champions League group stage opener, scheduled for October 18 in Lilongwe.

Speaking separately, the former players said Yanga have both the experience and squad depth to perform well and secure a positive result away from home.

Former Yanga defender Salvatory Edward said determination, discipline, and self-belief will be crucial for the team to start the group campaign on a high note.

“Yanga are a strong team. What matters most is for the players to recognize the pride and value of wearing that jersey. Whether at home or away, a win is possible if they stay focused and believe in themselves,” said Edward.

He added that teamwork and confidence will drive the club to achieve positive results and strengthen their chances of advancing to the knockout stage.

Meanwhile, former winger Mrisho Ngassa said the match would be competitive but believes Yanga have what it takes to edge their opponents.

“It’s going to be a tough game, but I give Yanga a high chance of winning. They’ve been here before and understand the pressure and expectations of continental football,” Ngassa noted.

He urged the players to capitalize on every scoring opportunity, saying early goals could help them control the game and gain a strong advantage ahead of the return leg in Dar es Salaam.

“If they create and convert their chances, it will give them a comfortable lead to finish the job at home,” he added.
