The Chief Government Physician, Dr. Grace Magembe, has called for stronger collaboration between the National Safe Blood Program, regional authorities, and local councils to improve the availability and safety of blood for patients across the country.
Dr. Magembe made the remarks, during a visit to the Lake Zone National Safe Blood Program office in Mwanza City.
She met with Ministry of Health staff, inspected laboratory facilities, and visited the specialized donor rooms.
“Partnership between the Safe Blood Program, Regional Chief Medical Officers, and local councils is essential for developing effective strategies to enhance safe blood services. This includes increasing the donor pool and promptly addressing emerging challenges,” she said.
She also highlighted the government’s commitment to modernizing blood testing infrastructure. The Ministry of Health has procured two additional high-capacity Alinity s machines, each capable of processing 600 tests or 15 samples simultaneously, to accelerate testing and ensure safer, timely blood supply.
Dr. Magembe stressed that such coordinated efforts are critical in guaranteeing that Tanzanians have access to safe blood when needed, reducing risks and saving lives.
