Yanga SC set for Mbeya City test after CAF triumph

Young Africans (Yanga SC) will depart for Mbeya this evening ahead of their NBC Tanzania Premier League clash against Mbeya City, scheduled for September 30 at the Sokoine Stadium.

The trip comes on the back of Yanga’s convincing 2-0 win over Angola’s Wielete in the CAF Champions League preliminary round return leg at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.

The result saw the Tanzanian champions advance to the next stage of the continental competition.

Yanga’s Media and Communications Manager, Ally Kamwe, said the team will hold their final training session before the league encounter, stressing the need for proper preparations.

“We know the game will be tough, but we are determined to fight for good results. Our target is to ensure that by the time the league pauses, we are in a strong position while also making progress internationally. I can confirm that our next CAF opponent will be Silver Strikers from Malawi,” Kamwe said.

He urged members and supporters across the country to prepare to accompany the team and give them morale as they embark on the next stage of their Champions League campaign.

“Our mission is to score more goals in the competition. I must commend our head coach, Romain Folz, for trusting his players and giving them confidence. We did not concede a single goal in the preliminary round and scored five in total,” he added.

Meanwhile, former Yanga player Skudu, who now plays for Wielete, praised his former club as one of Africa’s strongest teams.

He said the squad, under the leadership of President Engineer Hersi Said, is packed with talent and has the potential to go far in continental football.

Yanga also pocketed TZS 10 million through the “goal bonus” initiative after their 2-0 win over Wielete  a victory that further boosted the club’s morale ahead of their domestic league assignment in Mbeya.
