By Flora Mkoloma

Azam FC advanced to the next stage of the CAF Confederation Cup after securing a 2-0 victory over Sudan’s El Merriekh in the return leg of the preliminary round at the Azam Complex in Chamazi, Dar es Salaam.

The Chamazi-based side completed the job with a 4-0 aggregate scoreline, having also won 2-0 in the first leg away from home.

On Sunday, Yoro Diaby gave Azam the lead in the 18th minute, while Nassoro Saadun sealed the win deep into stoppage time with a well-taken goal in the 90+2 minute.

The victory not only ensured progression but also earned Azam TZS10 million as a home win bonus, taking their tally to TZS20 million from both preliminary matches.

Tanzania’s clubs are off to a strong start in continental football this season. In the CAF Champions League, Young Africans (Yanga) and Simba SC have both advanced, while in the Confederation Cup, Singida Black Stars and Azam have kept the country’s hopes alive with convincing performances.
