TRA Temeke empowers deaf entrepreneurs on tax compliance

The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) Temeke District office has taken a significant step in supporting inclusive business growth by engaging deaf entrepreneurs on the importance of tax registration and compliance.

On September 18, 2025, TRA Temeke Manager, Mr. Masau Malima, met with members of the MWAWAVITE group to provide guidance on registering their businesses and becoming officially recognized by TRA.

“Business is the foundation of development, and taxes are the natural result of business activity. By enabling entrepreneurs, we create opportunities for them to grow while strengthening the country’s revenue base,” Mr. Malima said.

He highlighted the role of TRA’s Business Facilitation Desk, which assists entrepreneurs in formalizing their operations, expanding their capital, and ensuring compliance with tax requirements.

He encouraged all small business owners, especially members of special groups, to register with TRA, as this opens doors to direct government opportunities and wider recognition.

The deaf entrepreneurs welcomed the initiative, noting that the training would help them manage their businesses better and meet legal tax obligations.

Ms. Flora Gohaji, speaking through sign language interpreter Mr. Hamis Mkana, said the session was vital for growing their enterprises.

The session, led by TRA’s Senior Tax Supervising Officer Mr. Abdalah Seif, focused on raising awareness of taxes’ role in national development and empowering entrepreneurs to operate successfully within the formal economy.
