Tanzania’s athletics will once again be on display this weekend as Gabriel Geay and fellow runners take to the streets of Berlin for the 2025 BMW Berlin Marathon, one of the world’s most celebrated long-distance races.

The event, set for September 21, will feature more than 80,000 participants, including elite runners from around the globe.

For Tanzania, the spotlight falls on Geay, who has consistently positioned himself among the country’s top marathoners and carries the nation’s hopes for a strong performance.

Ahead of the race, Tanzania’s Ambassador to Germany, Hassani Mwamweta, met with the team in Berlin on September 19, encouraging them to give their best and assuring the embassy’s support.

He noted that a podium finish would not only mark personal triumphs but also enhance Tanzania’s reputation internationally.

Marathons such as Berlin have become platforms where nations showcase their sporting depth. For Tanzania, the participation of Geay and his teammates reflects growing ambition to compete with the world’s best and to cement the country’s place in the global athletics map.

The runners will be carrying not only their personal dreams but also the national flag, with hopes of making Berlin a stage for Tanzanian pride.
