Residents of Mabira Ward in Kyerwa District have commended the government for initiating the construction of the Nkwenda–Mabira road to tarmac level, saying the project will boost market access for their agricultural produce and ease transportation.

The 1.0-kilometre stretch, whose foundation stone was laid by the 2025 Uhuru Torch Race, is expected to be completed by September this year.

Local residents, Mr. Ramadhan Robert and Mr. Bosco Gabriel, said they have long struggled with dust, which not only dirties their goods but also discourages buyers.

In an expressed optimism, upon completion, the project is expected to enhance business activity in the area.

They also called for the installation of street lights along the new road, noting that Mabira is rapidly growing into a bustling township.

Kyerwa District TARURA Manager, Engineer Yezron Mbasha, disclosed that the project is being implemented at a cost of TSh471.3 million, financed through government fuel levies.

He said the road will raise Mabira’s profile and improve the movement of produce within Kyerwa and neighbouring districts.

Meanwhile, the National Uhuru Torch Race leader, Mr. Ismail Ussi, urged residents to safeguard the project, praising TARURA for maintaining quality standards and accelerating the rollout of paved roads in fast-growing rural centres.
