Government calls on Club sponsors to invest in stadium projects

The government has urged sponsors of sports clubs to extend their support beyond match-day promotions by contributing to long-term infrastructure projects, including the construction of stadiums.

The call was made by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports and Government Spokesperson, Gerson Msigwa, after Young Africans Sports Club (Yanga) received its land title deed for the construction of the Uwanja wa Wananchi at Jangwani, Dar es Salaam.

The handover took place during the climax of Siku ya Mwananchi celebrations at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.

Mr. Msigwa said sponsors should not only benefit from brand visibility when clubs perform well but also play a role in supporting projects that have lasting impact.

He stressed that such contributions would ease the government’s burden of building sports infrastructure, which remains limited to a few key areas.

“I congratulate Yanga, and President Samia Suluhu Hassan has also applauded them. I believe that in the coming months we will see bulldozers at Jangwani starting construction of Yanga’s stadium. This should challenge other clubs to plan for their own facilities,” he said.

He added that if every Premier League club owned a stadium, the country would have a stronger infrastructure base and see faster growth in sports development.
