Tanzania: Government, Inter-University Council for East Africa commend CRJE for construction quality at NIT

The government together with the Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA) and other stakeholders have commended the quality and standard of the construction works that were done by CRJE (East Africa) at the National Institute of Transport (NIT).

Leaders of the East African Skills for Transformation and Regional Integration Project (EASTRIP), from the IUCEA and the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology of Tanzania and the World bank has over the weekend, paid a visit to the NIT for the purpose of inspection of the construction work at the Institute which is currently receiving the support to become a Centre of Excellence in Aviation.

Dr. Cosam Joseph, the Project Coordinator for the EASTRIP at the IUCEA, said: “We are very satisfied with the quality of the work that has been done here, the contractors have done a great job led by the Institute’s leadership.”

On his part, Dr. Fredrick Salukele, Director of Vocational Training at the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology said that after the completion of the dormitories construction made by CRJE (East Africa) Ltd, students will start using the hostels in November this year.

“The new two dormitories for female and male will have the capacity to accommodate 752 students per each dormitory. And in November, the two dormitories will officially starting operation for the students,” he said

The two dormitories are part of a five-building project funded by the World Bank under the EASTRIP. This initiative aims to enhance the learning environment and improve accommodation facilities for students.

Dr Salukele also said that about USD 21 million was been allocated to implement EASTRIP project at NIT.

He underscored that the project will greatly help to produce enough professionals in the transport sector particularly in the aviation.

“More than 80 percent of USD 21m was set for the construction of infrastructure and training equipment. We have today visited the infrastructure development, thanks to the NIT management team the building projects are successfully in 100 percent complete,” he said.


He pointed out that the construction of hangar at Kilimanjaro International Airport for NIT’s aviation training will commence on 1st September (Next Month).

He further said that the government’s strategic projects are being implemented and the state expects to see local experts trained by institutions such as NIT.
