NMB Bank’s Southern Highlands Zone has donated hospital beds and mattresses worth over TZS 9 million to Mbeya Regional Referral Hospital in an effort to improve healthcare services and ensure patients receive care in a safe and comfortable environment.
The donation, handed over on August 21, 2025, included 20 beds and 20 mattresses, along with 20 bed sheets.
It was presented by the bank’s Acting Zonal Manager for the Southern Highlands, Lembris Israel, to Mbeya Regional Commissioner Beno Malisa during a brief ceremony held at the hospital.
Israel said the contribution was part of NMB’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, where the bank allocates one percent of its annual profit to support communities in key areas such as health, education, and disaster relief.
“We have a responsibility to ensure that the community benefits from the success we achieve as a bank. Through our CSR fund, we are committed to addressing challenges in education and healthcare and providing relief in times of crisis,” he said, noting that the bank has consistently set aside one percent of its profits for these initiatives for more than a decade.
Receiving the donation, Regional Commissioner Malisa expressed his gratitude to NMB for the continued support, emphasizing that the bank has shown strong commitment to improving health services and education in the region.
“I would like to thank NMB for this timely support. Our hospital has 11 wards, and today we have received 20 beds and 20 mattresses. This will make a big difference, but we still need more support. I encourage other stakeholders to join hands with us because the demand for medical equipment remains high,” Malisa said.
He also commended President Samia Suluhu Hassan for strengthening the country’s healthcare system, saying there is visible progress in improving health infrastructure across the nation.
Mbeya Regional Referral Hospital’s Head Nurse, Maridhia Mvungi, said the donation will help address the severe shortage of beds that previously forced the hospital to refer patients to other health facilities at high costs.
“We are grateful to NMB for this donation. Previously, we faced a critical shortage of beds, which made it difficult to admit patients under proper conditions. This support will improve patient care significantly. However, we still appeal to other partners to assist with additional equipment,” Mvungi said.
