The KIUT men’s and women’s volleyball teams have emerged as the undisputed champions at the highly competitive Grand Palace Volleyball Tournament held in Malawi from August 8 to 10, 2025.
The international event attracted top teams from across the region, showcasing thrilling volleyball action.
The KIUT men’s squad asserted their dominance with a commanding 3-0 victory over Zimbabwe’s St. Collin team in the final, demonstrating tactical superiority and resilience.
On the women’s side, KIUT secured the championship title after a hard-fought 3-1 win against Malawi’s Wolves team, thrilling fans with their skill and determination.
Speaking to The Respondent Online, KIUT coordinator Roby Msigwa highlighted that meticulous preparation and disciplined adherence to the coaching staff’s instructions were key factors behind the teams’ impressive performances.
“The level of competition was exceptionally high, with each team bringing their best game. Our final against St. Collin was a true test, but through hard work and focus, both men’s and women’s teams rose to the occasion and delivered outstanding results,” Mr. Msigwa said.
He added that beyond winning titles, the tournament provided invaluable experience in international competition, a platform to showcase their talent on a wider stage, and fostered lasting friendships among participating teams.
Individual excellence was also celebrated, with KIUT players collecting several prestigious awards. Salma Kumtungwa was honored as the Best Libero, Sandra Catherine earned the Best Player accolade, Trista was named Best Opposite, and Coach Evance Bera was recognized as the Best Coach of the tournament.
The victorious KIUT teams are scheduled to return home today from Malawi, bringing back not only trophies but also renewed inspiration to their supporters and aspiring athletes.
