The body of the late Job Ndugai, former Speaker of the National Assembly of the United Republic of Tanzania, arrived this morning at St. Michael’s Anglican Church, Kongwa Deanery, ahead of a solemn farewell service.

Mourners gathered at the church in Kongwa District, Dodoma Region, to pay their final respects to the veteran legislator who served in Parliament for over two decades, including a distinguished tenure as Speaker.

The farewell service is being led by the Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Tanzania, the Most Rev. Dr. Maimbo Mndolwa.

The liturgy includes scripture readings, hymns, and tributes from family members, government officials, and religious leaders.

Present at the ceremony are senior government officials, Members of Parliament, clergy, and members of the public, all drawn together to honour the life and legacy of one of the country’s most prominent parliamentary figures.

Security has been heightened around the church and surrounding areas to ensure the proceedings are carried out with dignity and order.

The Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TPDF) and other security agencies are overseeing the logistical arrangements.

Ndugai, who passed away earlier this week, is being remembered for his commitment to public service, his role in strengthening parliamentary democracy, and his dedication to national unity.

His leadership saw significant parliamentary reforms, and he was widely respected across the political spectrum for his calm demeanour and procedural knowledge.

Following today’s service, the body will be transported for burial in his home village, where final rites will be conducted in accordance with family and state traditions.

The nation continues to mourn the loss of a dedicated leader whose contributions to Tanzanian politics and governance will be remembered for generations.
