The Higher Education Students’ Loans Board (HESLB) has stepped up its drive to equip future university students with financial literacy by conducting training sessions on higher education loan application and repayment procedures at Songea Boys’ and Songea Girls’ secondary schools in Ruvuma Region.
The initiative, part of HESLB’s ongoing outreach programme, is designed to prepare students well in advance for the loan process and to instil awareness of their repayment obligations after graduation.
In addition to the in-person training, the schools received posters containing frequently asked questions and answers on student loans and grants, aimed at serving as a lasting reference for both learners and teachers.
“This poster will be a valuable tool for students and teachers alike, enhancing understanding and encouraging early preparation for the loan application process, as well as promoting responsible repayment practices,” said Nguwa Florence, Acting Regional Education Officer for Ruvuma.
Students welcomed the move, commending HESLB for bringing the information directly to their schools and pledging to use the knowledge to plan for their higher education financing.
