The Director of Forestry and Conservation, Prof. Dos Santos Silayo, has applauded district forest conservation offices that demonstrated innovation, accountability and strong community engagement in advancing environmental protection.
In the Innovation category, the Kisarawe District Forest Conservation (DFC) Office, through the Pugu–Kazimzumbwi Nature Reserve, was awarded for upgrading tourist shelters, constructing a walkway to Minaki Dam, installing a large screen to showcase activities, and using the District Commissioner to promote Kisarawe as a tourism destination.
The Good Governance award went to Ulanga DFC for effective delegation of duties, timely reporting, transparent conflict resolution among staff and improved collaboration with district leaders. These measures helped boost beekeeping output in the area.
For Forest Conservation, Mkuranga DFC was recognised for tackling encroachment in Vikindu Forest through special forest guards, strengthening management of Mkerezange and Masanganya forests and engaging local communities in conservation, which revived degraded woodlands.
The Revenue Collection award was claimed by the Dumila Special Zone Office after posting revenue growth for three consecutive years from 2022 to 2025, raising the forestry sector’s contribution to the national income.
In the Public Asset Management category, Rufiji DFC was commended for tracking vehicle usage, ensuring accountability of drivers and reviving idle vehicles—steps that reduced costs and improved efficiency.
Prof. Silayo said the recognition was aimed at motivating staff, strengthening accountability and ensuring sustainable management of forest resources, which play a central role in national development.
