As the countdown to the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024) begins, senior sports officials have affirmed Tanzania’s full preparedness both on the pitch and as host nation with the national team, Taifa Stars, eyeing nothing less than the championship title.

The tournament, reserved for players competing in their national leagues, is set to kick off on August 2, 2025, with Tanzania facing Burkina Faso in the opening match at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

Speaking on the state broadcaster TBC1 during the Mada Kuu programme, Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) Communications Officer Mr. Clifford Ndimbo expressed optimism about the team’s chances and praised the progress made in preparations.

“Taifa Stars is ready. We are going into this tournament with a clear goal to win. The players are fit, focused, and the technical bench is confident. The camp is injury-free and morale is high,” said Mr. Ndimbo.

Meanwhile, the Executive Secretary of the National Sports Council (BMT), Ms. Neema Msitha, underscored Tanzania’s logistical and infrastructural readiness during an interview on Clouds TV’s Power Breakfast programme.

“Hosting a CAF tournament comes with strict requirements particularly in terms of stadium infrastructure and service delivery. I’m proud to report that we’ve met all obligations and are ready to deliver a world-class event,” said Ms. Msitha.

She further called on Tanzanians to seize the opportunity presented by the tournament, especially in the hospitality, tourism, and service sectors.

“From hotels to transport services, this is a huge opportunity for local businesses. We encourage all citizens to actively participate and benefit from the influx of visitors and activities,” she added.

Tanzania was awarded hosting rights for CHAN 2024 by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following its strong proposal and ongoing investments in sports infrastructure.

The country’s readiness to host such a continental event reflects broader efforts to position itself as a leading sporting hub in East Africa.

As the nation prepares to welcome Africa’s top domestic-based football talent, all eyes will be on the Taifa Stars not just to perform, but to make history on home soil.
