Citizens and development stakeholders have praised the Ministry of Finance for its efforts to provide practical and accessible financial education that aligns with everyday life and promotes responsible money management and economic development.
The commendation came from a delegation representing World Vision Tanzania’s environmental conservation project in Tanga Region, which visited the Ministry’s pavilion at the 49th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF), commonly known as Sabasaba.
Led by Mr. Swalehe Mwachuo, the team—drawn from the districts of Mkinga, Pangani, Handeni, and Kilindi—said they were particularly impressed by the Ministry’s efforts to simplify complex financial topics such as fiscal policy and microfinance services.
“We have found the information shared here not only informative but also directly relevant to the communities we serve,” said Mr. Mwachuo.
“Our team has gained vital knowledge on issues like the risks of predatory lending, the importance of borrowing with a purpose, and ensuring that loan funds are directed toward productive activities.”he added
He stressed that one key takeaway was the understanding that loan capital must be used strategically: “We now see that borrowed money isn’t really yours it’s the profit that truly benefits the borrower. That mindset can transform how people engage with credit.”he added
The Ministry’s pavilion at the trade fair has been offering one-on-one consultations and guidance through experts drawn from various departments and institutions under its portfolio.
These include agencies tasked with fiscal planning, financial sector supervision, and public financial management reform.
The initiative forms part of the Ministry’s broader public education campaign to demystify government policies and encourage inclusive financial practices among citizens, especially those in rural and underserved areas.
The Ministry is encouraging more Tanzanians to visit its pavilion at the Sabasaba grounds along Kilwa Road in Dar es Salaam to access insights on how to better manage personal and community finances key to unlocking grassroots economic transformation.
The DITF, which draws thousands of local and international exhibitors and visitors each year, continues to serve as a vital platform for government-citizen engagement on economic development.
