Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) on Monday convened a strategic meeting with local government chairpersons from Kinondoni and Ubungo municipalities in a bid to enhance electricity service delivery in the city.
Held at Ubungo Plaza Hall, the meeting was officiated by Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Mr. Albert Chalamila, and brought together local leaders and TANESCO executives to discuss how to strengthen collaboration at the grassroots level.
Speaking during the session, TANESCO’s newly appointed Director General, Mr. Jacob Twange, underscored the importance of forging stronger ties with local authorities to improve responsiveness and customer satisfaction.
“As the pace of infrastructure development accelerates across the country, we must ensure that our electricity services remain reliable and in line with national growth,” said Mr. Twange.
“This partnership with local leaders will help us gather timely feedback and deliver more efficient services.”he added
A key highlight of the meeting was the proposal to establish a communication framework that positions ward and street leaders as TANESCO ambassadors. Under this model, local chairpersons will serve as vital links between the company and communities, ensuring that service issues are promptly reported and addressed.
Mr. Twange said the initiative forms part of TANESCO’s broader efforts to boost operational efficiency and strengthen its customer care systems.
“We are committed to addressing the persistent power challenges in Dar es Salaam, especially those caused by emergencies and system faults,” he noted. “Through these engagements, we aim to deliver quicker, better-informed solutions.”
TANESCO, a state utility with a nationwide mandate, has received accolades over the years for its strides in customer service innovation and infrastructure expansion.
The meeting ended with a shared commitment to ongoing dialogue and collaboration to meet the growing demands for energy in one of Tanzania’s fastest-growing urban areas.
