Zanzibar President and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has said the remarkable development achievements recorded under the Eighth Phase Government are a result of the strong contribution and oversight role played by the House of Representatives.

Speaking during a farewell and appreciation ceremony for members of the Tenth House of Representatives, held at Golden Tulip Hotel in Mjini Magharibi Region on June 23, 2025, Dr Mwinyi applauded the institution for working closely with the Executive in delivering services to the people.

“The success we’ve achieved in various sectors stems from the crucial support and contribution of the House of Representatives,” said Dr Mwinyi, adding that he deeply values the role the legislature has played in nation-building.

He noted that effective cooperation between the country’s three pillars the Executive, the Judiciary, and the Legislature has enhanced governance, accountability, and service delivery across the board.

Dr Mwinyi further emphasised the importance of the partnership between the Government and the House, saying it strengthened institutional checks and balances and improved oversight of government operations.

“The strong relationship between the Government and the House of Representatives has ensured close supervision, which in turn improves government performance and accountability to citizens,” he said.

As the Tenth House nears the end of its constitutional five-year term, Dr Mwinyi announced that it will be officially dissolved on August 13, 2025, in line with the Zanzibar Constitution.

He also took the opportunity to urge all outgoing lawmakers to participate fully in the upcoming General Election and encourage eligible citizens to exercise their democratic rights.

“I encourage you all to turn out and vote and ensure that every citizen who qualifies does the same,” he said.

In a show of gratitude, the House of Representatives awarded President Mwinyi a Special Honour, recognising his leadership and the transformative reforms initiated under his tenure.

The award, according to House officials, reflects his dedication to empowering state institutions and driving impactful development across Zanzibar’s key sectors.
