Dodoma. Dodoma Urban MP Anthony Mavunde has officially handed over a modern resting shelter at the Dodoma Regional Referral Hospital, offering a safe and dignified space for caregivers who accompany patients.
The new facility directly responds to a long-standing challenge that has affected thousands of families seeking medical care in the region.
The handover ceremony, held on June 25, 2025, was officiated by Dodoma Regional Commissioner Rosemary Senyamule, who lauded the MP’s commitment to supporting the government’s ongoing efforts to improve health service delivery.
“President Samia Suluhu Hassan has significantly improved healthcare services and infrastructure nationwide. What MP Mavunde has done here is a direct response to the President’s vision ensuring dignity and comfort for every citizen who interacts with our health system,” said RC Senyamule.
She emphasized that the shelter will greatly benefit hundreds of visitors from within and beyond Dodoma who accompany patients, especially during overnight stays.
She further commended the MP for initiating construction of the hospital’s perimeter fence, noting its importance in enhancing security and hospital order.
“I urge other stakeholders and development partners to support such efforts. These investments are not just about buildings they are about restoring humanity and dignity to our people,” she added.
Dr. Ernest Ibenzi, Acting Medical Officer in Charge at the facility, said the hospital is currently undergoing major expansion aimed at increasing capacity and improving service quality. He described the new shelter as a timely intervention.
“This support from Hon. Mavunde comes at a critical time. We are grateful for his continued partnership, including the upcoming perimeter wall project, which is essential for patient safety and facility protection,” said Dr. Ibenzi.
Addressing attendees, MP Mavunde said the idea to build the resting shelter was informed by frequent encounters with families forced to sleep outside the hospital under difficult conditions.
“Many people come from rural areas and have no safe place to rest while caring for their loved ones. This structure is a small but important step in restoring dignity to their experience. I’m also committed to completing the perimeter wall to strengthen the hospital environment,” Mavunde said.
Residents and patients’ families who spoke to The Citizen expressed deep appreciation to the MP and called the shelter a game-changer for the hospital.
“This will change how we support our sick relatives. It’s a great relief,” said Anna Nchimbi, a resident of Kongwa.
The project adds to a series of citizen-centered initiatives being spearheaded by leaders working in line with the Sixth-Phase Government’s priorities, especially in health, human development, and infrastructure.
