CRDB Taifa Cup basketball tournament tips off today in Dodoma

The stage is set for the 2025 CRDB Taifa Cup basketball tournament, which officially kicks off today at the Chinangali Grounds in Dodoma with two opening matches.

The men’s category will launch the competition with Kigoma taking on Iringa in the first game scheduled for 12:00 PM. In the women’s division, Mara will face Arusha at 8:00 PM under the floodlights at the same venue.

Speaking ahead of the tip-off, Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) Communications Officer Mary Arthur confirmed that preparations have been completed in full, with all logistics and fixtures in place.

“We are excited to begin this year’s tournament. Everything is ready, and we expect high-quality basketball as teams have had ample time to prepare,” she said.

Arthur emphasized that today's opening games mark the beginning of an action-packed tournament, with daily matches lined up until a new national champion is crowned.

“Our goal is to maintain momentum from the first day and offer basketball fans thrilling competition throughout the tournament,” she added.

The tournament is sponsored by CRDB Bank, which has announced a generous prize package for both teams and individual performers. 

Each team advancing from the group stage will receive TSh 400,000, while quarter-finalists will be awarded TSh 200,000. Semi-finalists will also earn TSh 400,000.

The ultimate champions will take home TSh 7 million, while the runners-up will receive TSh 4 million. In addition, standout players and coaches will be recognized for their excellence. 

The tournament's Most Valuable Player (MVP) will be awarded TSh 250,000, while the top scorer, best defender, best young player, and best coach will each receive TSh 200,000.

The CRDB Taifa Cup brings together top regional teams from across Tanzania and plays a critical role in promoting basketball talent and unity at the national level.
