Tanzanian Vice President attends Easter Mass in Ivory Coast

The Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Philip Mpango, accompanied by his spouse Mrs. Mbonimpaye Mpango, attended the Holy Mass for the Sixth Sunday of Easter at St. Peter’s Catholic Church – Blockhauss, in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, today, May 25, 2025. The Mass was celebrated by Father Felicien Aguie.

In his address to the congregation after the service, the Vice President commended the worshippers for their unwavering devotion to God and their active participation in this important religious observance.

He also praised the women of the church who had recently commemorated International Women’s Day at the parish, acknowledging their exemplary role in nurturing children and promoting peace within the community.

The Vice President encouraged all women to remain steadfast in their efforts to foster peace, thereby creating a safe and prosperous environment for raising children. He emphasized the enduring message of Jesus Christ, who left the world with peace, not conflict.

Father Felicien Aguie, in turn, praised Tanzania for its continued commitment to peace and the various initiatives it has undertaken to promote stability across the African continent. He noted that Tanzania is widely regarded as a beautiful and welcoming country by many visitors.

The Mass was also an occasion to pray for Tanzania. The Vice President was joined by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation,Dennis Londo, and the Tanzanian Ambassador to Ivory Coast, who is resident in Nigeria, Ambassador Selestine Kakele.

Vice President Mpango is in Ivory Coast to represent the President of the United Republic of Tanzania,  Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, at the Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the African Development Bank (AfDB), scheduled to take place from May 26 to 30, 2025, in Abidjan.
