Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has held a high-level meeting with the Prime Minister of Japan, Ishiba Shigeru, who reaffirmed Japan’s continued commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation with Tanzania.

The partnership aims to stimulate economic growth by leveraging emerging opportunities through enhanced relations.

The meeting took place today (Thursday, May 29, 2025) at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tokyo. During the discussion, Prime Minister Majaliwa welcomed Japan’s pledge, noting that it paves the way for increased investment and collaboration from Japanese businesses and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in various development initiatives across Tanzania.

Taking the opportunity, Prime Minister Majaliwa appealed to Japan to consider supporting major rehabilitation efforts for the Morogoro–Dodoma and Kibiti–Lindi roads, both of which have sustained significant damage due to ongoing heavy rainfall in Tanzania.

In response, Prime Minister Ishiba directed JICA officials and Japan’s Ambassador to Tanzania, Mr. Youichi Mikami, to conduct an on-site assessment of the affected roads.

The findings will be reported to the Japanese government to explore possible areas of support and collaboration with Tanzania in the rehabilitation efforts.

Prime Minister Ishiba praised the growing partnership between the two nations and reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting Tanzania’s socio-economic development.

He emphasized that Japanese companies will continue to engage with Tanzania, particularly in areas of economic growth, social services, and technology, in recognition of the country’s expanding population and development potential.
