Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire – The Minister for Finance of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Mwigulu Lameck Nchemba (MP), has held a high-level meeting with the African Development Bank (AfDB) Resident Representative to Tanzania, Dr. Patricia Laverley, on the sidelines of the Bank’s Annual Meetings currently taking place in Abidjan.
The discussion focused on strengthening the strategic partnership between Tanzania and AfDB and identifying key priority areas for the country that will be tabled for consideration at the 2025 AfDB Annual Meetings.
“Our collaboration with the African Development Bank continues to be crucial in driving our national development agenda, particularly in infrastructure, energy, and agriculture,” said Dr. Nchemba.
“We are here to ensure Tanzania’s priorities are well-aligned with AfDB’s strategic outlook and receive the attention they deserve.”he added
Dr. Patricia Laverley affirmed the Bank’s commitment to Tanzania’s development efforts. “Tanzania remains one of AfDB’s key partners in the region. We are committed to supporting the Government’s goals and accelerating impactful investments that will enhance economic growth and improve livelihoods,” she said.
The meeting was also attended by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance and Paymaster General, Dr. Natu El-maamry Mwamba; the Commissioner for External Finance, Mr. Rished Bade; the Assistant Cabinet Secretary, Mr. Fidelis Mkatte; along with other senior government officials.
Dr. Mwamba highlighted the importance of alignment between government planning and development financing.
“The dialogue with AfDB helps us sharpen our focus on impactful projects that match both national priorities and regional development goals,” she noted.
The discussions are expected to lay the groundwork for deeper cooperation and pave the way for increased funding and technical support in key sectors across Tanzania.
