The Deputy Minister of Energy,Judith Kapinga, has announced that the government has successfully extended electricity to 58 of the 81 streets in the Tarime Town Council.

Kapinga made the announcement on May 26, 2025, in Parliament in Dodoma while responding to a question from the Member of Parliament for Tarime Urban, Michael Kembaki, who inquired about the timeline for electrifying the remaining 18 streets in the council.

“Honorable Deputy Speaker, Tarime Town Council comprises 81 streets, of which 58 have already been connected to electricity. The remaining 23 streets are yet to be electrified,”  Kapinga stated.

She added that 13 of these remaining streets are currently being electrified under the Hamlets Electrification Project – IIA (HEP IIA), implemented by the contractor Dyname Construction Engineering. The remaining 10 streets will be covered in future projects.

Addressing a question from Special Seats Women MP,  Zaytuni Swai, regarding the government’s plans to provide electricity to the outskirts of Arusha, particularly in Telat Ward, Kapinga explained that the government is executing various peri-urban electrification projects through the Rural Energy Agency (REA) aimed at extending electricity access to peri-urban areas.

In response to another question from Special Seats MP, Cecilia Pareso, concerning the lack of electricity in hamlets within Karatu District and the insufficient number of 40 poles allocated under the current project,  Kapinga clarified that the scope of electrification projects depends on the contractor’s assigned work. She further assured that Karatu District is included in the upcoming 9,000 Hamlet Electrification Project, which will commence soon. Kapinga emphasized that electrification of hamlets is a continuous and sustainable government effort.
