The Vice Chairman of CCM Mainland Tanzania, Stephen Wasira, has given farmers and residents of Kishapu District in Shinyanga Region a reassuring message, emphasizing that the party remains committed to addressing their agricultural and infrastructural challenges.
During his visit on March 28, 2025, Wasira spoke directly to CCM members and local leaders, highlighting the government's dedication to solving issues related to agricultural production and ensuring sustainable growth in the region.
Speaking to an attentive crowd of party members, Wasira stressed that one of the main priorities for the government, under CCM's leadership, is to improve the livelihoods of farmers.
“We are fully committed to ensuring that farmers in this region and across the country continue to receive the necessary support for agricultural productivity. Our efforts are focused on increasing yields by providing essential farming inputs and building the necessary infrastructure,” Wasira said.
He highlighted the importance of addressing farmers' needs in the region to foster long-term agricultural success.
A significant portion of his remarks centered on the distribution of agricultural inputs, such as seeds, fertilizers, and tools, which he identified as critical to boosting crop production.
“The provision of agricultural inputs is central to ensuring that farmers have what they need to increase their productivity. It is not just about giving them seeds and fertilizers, but also making sure they have the tools and support required to make their farming operations more effective and sustainable,” Wasira emphasized.
He assured the residents that the government would continue to facilitate the easy access of these inputs to farmers, which, in turn, will help them produce more crops, improve their income, and reduce food insecurity in the region.
In addition to inputs, Wasira highlighted the importance of developing key infrastructure such as roads, irrigation systems, and storage facilities.
“We understand that inadequate infrastructure has been a barrier to your success in agriculture, but we are making strides to overcome these challenges,” Wasira stated.
He explained that such infrastructure would not only make it easier for farmers to transport their produce to markets but would also help to preserve crops after harvest, preventing losses due to poor storage conditions.
“Once we improve infrastructure, it will ease the transportation of goods, making markets more accessible. This will lead to better prices for our farmers and reduce wastage from spoilage,” he added.
The Vice Chairman’s visit is part of a broader effort to assess the progress of CCM's 2020-2025 Election Manifesto, which aims to address various socioeconomic issues across the country.
Wasira has been touring different regions to meet with citizens and assess the implementation of policies laid out in the party’s election platform.
He emphasized the importance of staying connected with local communities to understand their needs and ensure that government programs effectively address them.
“We believe that the best way to understand the needs of our people is to engage with them directly. This ensures that we are aligned with their expectations and are able to deliver solutions that will have a lasting impact,” Wasira remarked.
Throughout his visit, Wasira also took the time to listen to the concerns of local residents, especially farmers who face challenges in their day-to-day agricultural activities.
Many farmers in Kishapu expressed their frustrations over the lack of reliable irrigation systems, fluctuating market prices for crops, and limited access to financial services that could help them improve their farming methods.
Wasira reassured the farmers that their concerns were being taken seriously. “We know the struggles that many of you are facing, and we are here to address them. Your concerns will not go unheard, and we are committed to finding practical solutions to these challenges,” he assured the farmers.
In addition to addressing agricultural issues, Wasira’s visit also had a political dimension. He participated in several public rallies, where he spoke about the role of CCM in driving national development.
“CCM has a proven track record of leadership in this country. Our policies are designed with the best interest of Tanzanians at heart. We will continue working towards ensuring that all regions, especially those dependent on agriculture, experience growth and prosperity,” Wasira declared.
Wasira concluded his three-day tour in Shinyanga with a positive outlook, having engaged in fruitful discussions with local leaders and community members.
He expressed his satisfaction with the progress made in implementing the party's manifesto but also acknowledged that there is still work to be done to improve the livelihoods of the people in the region.
“Our work here is far from over. We will keep pushing forward to make sure that the needs of the people are met, and we will continue to improve the conditions of the agricultural sector.”
Following the conclusion of his visit to Shinyanga, Wasira announced that he would be moving on to Simiyu Region for a similar tour.
His visit to Simiyu will focus on assessing the impact of the government's policies on local agriculture and other sectors critical to the region’s development.
As the CCM Vice Chairman continues his tour across the country, it is clear that the party remains focused on improving the welfare of Tanzanians, particularly in rural areas where agriculture is the backbone of the economy.
Through these efforts, CCM is committed to ensuring that Tanzania's agricultural sector remains vibrant and resilient, paving the way for long-term economic growth and prosperity.
“Together, we will continue to build a Tanzania that works for everyone,” Wasira concluded.
