Dar es Salaam– Midea, a global leader in home
appliances, has marked a significant milestone in its African expansion with
the opening of its first branded retail store in Tanzania at Mlimani City Mall
yesterday, 28th March, 2025.
This new store is not just about
offering state-of-the-art appliances, but also aligns with Midea's commitment
to providing energy-efficient solutions designed to meet the unique needs of
tropical climates.
At the grand opening, Miriam
Zablon, Marketing Manager of Midea Tanzania, spoke about the company’s
dedication to bringing environmentally friendly technologies to Tanzanian
households.
“Midea is known worldwide for
combining cutting-edge performance with energy efficiency,” Zablon said. “By
opening this store, we’re making these innovations directly available to
Tanzanians, helping reduce electricity consumption and enhance everyday
living.”
The ceremony also saw remarks
from Midea’s President for Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, Scott Fu, who
emphasized the long-term impact of the store beyond just product sales.
“This is about creating local job
opportunities and investing in skills development,” Fu shared. “We are
committed to training over 500 Tanzanian technicians in the next three years,
fostering both industry growth and sustainability.”
With a 240-square-meter flagship
store adopting a "smart home" concept, customers can experience
connected appliances like energy-efficient refrigerators, advanced kitchen
gadgets, and inverter air conditioners.
This smart approach to home appliances is an
essential part of Midea's strategy to cater to Tanzania’s growing demand for
sustainable living solutions.
Midea’s expansion goes beyond
retail presence. The company has already made its mark on the commercial
sector, providing air conditioning systems for prominent Dar es Salaam
buildings such as Mikocheni Plaza, Coco Plaza, and the MDH Building.
This move into Tanzania’s
competitive home appliance market signals a shift toward innovation and better
value for consumers. By offering energy-efficient products tailored to local
conditions, Midea aims to become a household name while contributing to
Tanzania’s broader energy conservation goals.
Industry analysts predict that Midea’s retail push will encourage more competition in the local market, prompting other companies to innovate and offer more affordable, sustainable options. With plans to expand into other major Tanzanian cities, Midea is positioning itself as a leader in both quality and environmental consciousness.
