The Miarianister for Works, Abdallah Ulega, has stated that he will evaluate managers of the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) based on their ability to address challenges during emergencies to ensure all roads in the country remain passable at all times.

Speaking today while inspecting the construction of the Handeni-Mafuleta 20-kilometer road in Tanga Region, the minister emphasized that managers who ensure smooth road traffic flow and effectively resolve user complaints will be deemed competent.

"President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has tasked me with inspecting ongoing and stalled projects to ensure their completion," said Minister Ulega.

He urged the contractor, Henan Highway Engineering Group (HEGO), building the Handeni-Mafuleta section, to maintain quality standards while working diligently day and night, noting that payments had already commenced and would continue to facilitate the project.

"Construction activities are ongoing nationwide. The President is committed to opening up the country in all sectors to boost the economy," Ulega reiterated.

The minister also called for urgency in identifying mountainous and sharp-turn areas along the Segera-Chalinze road to construct bypasses that would reduce congestion and accidents.

"Fatalities and disabilities caused by road accidents persist. Expedite the feasibility studies so construction in critical areas can begin immediately," he urged.

Meanwhile, TANROADS Chief Executive Officer Eng. Mohamed Besta assured the minister of compliance with his directives and pledged to continue educating the public on protecting road signs.

Handeni District Commissioner Albert Msando highlighted the economic significance of the Handeni-Singida road, describing it as the economic lifeline for the residents of Handeni and Kilindi. He noted that its completion would stimulate economic activities in these districts and connect Tanga Region with central and lake zone regions.

Additionally, Kilindi CCM Chairperson Mohamed Kumbi assured Minister Ulega of continued support for government efforts, acknowledging the significant development achievements in the district.

The Handeni-Mafuleta road is part of the 434.33-kilometer Handeni-Kiberashi-Singida highway, connecting Tanga with central and lake zone regions. Once completed, it will enhance the efficiency of Tanga Port.
