Bishop Dr. Alex Malasusa, head of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT), has commended the Office of the Treasury Registrar for its impactful and swift reforms in managing public institutions under the leadership of Mr. Nehemiah Mchechu, the Treasury Registrar.

Bishop Malasusa delivered his remarks today, January 11, 2025, during a special thanksgiving service organized by Mr. Mchechu’s family to express gratitude for God’s protection and blessings in 2024 and to seek His favor for the year 2025.

The service, held at the ELCT Mbezi Beach Parish, successfully raised over TZS 70 million as a special contribution toward the church's construction project.

In his sermon, which was led by Pastor Allen Mbiso and attended by family members, friends, and some staff from the Treasury Registrar’s office, Bishop Malasusa highlighted Mr. Mchechu’s exceptional track record of bringing positive change.

“Even here in our church, during his service as Chairperson of the Finance and Planning Committee for the Eastern and Coastal Diocese and later as Secretary of the Mbezi Beach Parish, he consistently demonstrated his ability to drive transformation,” noted Bishop Malasusa.

Mr. Mchechu, reflecting on the significance of the thanksgiving service, emphasized his family’s tradition of returning to the altar to acknowledge God’s blessings.

Citing the Biblical story from Luke 17:11–19, he drew parallels to the account of 10 lepers who were healed by Jesus Christ. Only one, a Samaritan, returned to give thanks. “Everyone has a reason to be thankful in all circumstances,” Mr. Mchechu remarked.

The scripture recounts Jesus traveling toward Jerusalem, passing between Samaria and Galilee. As He entered a village, ten lepers called out from a distance, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.”

Seeing them, Jesus instructed, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” On their way, they were healed. One of them, realizing he was cured, returned, praising God with a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus' feet, thanking Him.

Jesus then asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?”

Acknowledging the man’s faith and gratitude, Jesus said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”

The service served as a reminder of the importance of gratitude and faith in all aspects of life.
