Fuel prices in Tanzania are set to fall from Wednesday, September 2, 2026, offering relief to motorists and businesses after the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) announced reductions in petrol and diesel prices.
Under the new monthly pricing structure, the price of petrol has been reduced by TZS 102 per litre, while diesel has dropped by TZS 101 per litre.
The new prices will take effect at 12:01am on September 2, 2026, EWURA said.
The reduction comes as global oil markets continue to respond to several factors, including developments in the Middle East, which have continued to influence international crude oil and petroleum product prices.
EWURA said it is closely monitoring developments in the global market as part of its mandate to regulate the petroleum sector and ensure that changes in international prices are reflected in domestic fuel prices.
Tanzania operates a market-based fuel pricing system under the Petroleum Act, 2015, with EWURA publishing monthly indicative prices for petroleum products.
The regulator reminded fuel retailers that they are required to sell petroleum products at prices not exceeding the prescribed indicative prices.
Consumers have also been urged to report fuel stations that sell petroleum products above the official indicative prices.
The latest reduction is expected to ease some transport and business costs, particularly for sectors that rely heavily on petrol and diesel, while potentially providing relief to consumers through lower transportation and operating expenses.
