Tanzania Prisons and Jeshi Stars are one win away from the Tanzania Volleyball National League (TVNL) women’s final after taking commanding leads in their semi-final series at Mwembe Yanga grounds.
Tanzania Prisons beat JKT 3-1 in the opening match, while Jeshi Stars produced an even more convincing display, sweeping Bandari 3-0 to put both winners within reach of the September 19 final.
The two sides will have an opportunity to seal their places in the final when they return to the court tomorrow. Another victory would give each team the two wins required to advance.
But JKT and Bandari are not out yet. A win for either side tomorrow would force a third and decisive match, keeping their title hopes alive.
The semi-finals are being played under a best-of-three format, according to Tanzania Volleyball Federation (TVF) League Board chairperson Riziki Godwini.
She said teams must win two matches to qualify for the final, unlike the group stage where qualification and standings are determined by accumulated points.
“The semi-finals will be decided by match wins. A team that wins two of the three matches will qualify for the final,” Godwini said.
She said the competitiveness of the four remaining teams makes the outcome difficult to predict, with each side capable of reaching the final.
“We expect a good final because all the teams are strong and anything can happen,” she said.
The final is scheduled for September 19 at Mwembe Yanga grounds in Dar es Salaam, where the two finalists will battle for the TVNL women’s title.
