CAF president Patrice Motsepe will tomorrow meet the chairperson of Tanzania’s National AFCON 2027 Organising Committee as the country steps up preparations to host matches of the continental tournament.
Mr Motsepe arrived in Tanzania yesterday, September 16, for a series of engagements in Dar es Salaam, including a review of the country’s readiness to host the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2027.
The CAF president will first join other senior football officials in inspecting Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, one of the key facilities expected to be used during the tournament.
Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) information and communications officer Clifford Mario Ndimbo said the meeting with the organising committee would focus on exchanging views on the preparations for the tournament.
“The inspection is part of the close monitoring process to assess the readiness of the infrastructure that will be used during the tournament,” Mr Ndimbo said.
The inspection is expected to allow CAF officials to assess the condition and preparedness of the stadium and identify areas that may require further attention ahead of the tournament.
Mr Motsepe will be accompanied by CAF Second Vice President Kurt Okraku, Fifth Vice President Feizal Sidat, Cecafa president Paulos Andemariam Weldahai and acting CAF Secretary General Samson Adam.
Tanzania will co-host AFCON 2027 with Kenya and Uganda, making the inspection an important part of efforts to ensure that facilities meet CAF requirements ahead of the tournament.
The visit also provides an opportunity for CAF officials and Tanzania’s organising team to assess progress and discuss outstanding issues as preparations gather pace.
