Minister for Home Affairs Patrobas Katambi has conducted a working visit to the Tanzania Immigration Department, where he reviewed the department’s operations, development projects and delivery of immigration services to citizens and visitors.
The visit, held on September 1, 2026, at the Immigration Department offices in Kurasini, Dar es Salaam, was hosted by Commissioner General of Immigration Dr Anna Makakala.
Minister Katambi began the visit with a meeting with senior immigration commissioners, during which Dr Makakala presented a special report on the department’s performance and ongoing activities.
In the report, Dr Makakala expressed appreciation to President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who is also Commander-in-Chief of the Tanzania People’s Defence Force, for continued government support to the Immigration Department.
She said the support had enabled the department to implement various development projects, including the construction of immigration offices at district level and staff accommodation in different parts of the country.
The department has also continued to strengthen digital systems aimed at improving the delivery of immigration services and making services more accessible and efficient.
During the visit, Katambi toured various systems installed at the Kurasini Immigration offices and assessed how they are being used to provide services.
He also interacted with citizens and foreign visitors who had visited the offices to access immigration services, giving him an opportunity to hear directly about their experiences.
Katambi said he was satisfied with the quality of services being provided and commended immigration officers for carrying out their responsibilities professionally and in accordance with the country’s laws and regulations.
“I am satisfied with the delivery of services. The report presented to me demonstrates the professionalism with which the Tanzania Immigration Department is carrying out its duties while observing the country’s laws and regulations, as well as the rights and responsibilities of every person,” Katambi said.
He urged immigration officers to maintain high standards of service and ensure that citizens and visitors receive services fairly and without discrimination.
“Continue providing quality services without any form of discrimination to citizens and visitors coming to Tanzania, because doing so will create a positive image of our Immigration Department,” he said.
The visit forms part of Katambi’s ongoing programme to inspect departments and institutions under the Ministry of Home Affairs, as well as monitor the implementation of various development projects.
The minister’s inspection is also expected to strengthen accountability and service delivery across institutions under the ministry while ensuring that government investments translate into improved services for the public.
