Tanzania has completed preparations to host the 2026 East Africa Secondary School Sports Association (FEASSA) Games, with a record 1,510 students set to represent the country in all 23 sporting disciplines.
The regional competition is scheduled to take place in Morogoro from August 12 to 23, bringing together school athletes from East African Community (EAC) member states for one of the region’s major youth sporting events.
The preparations have been given a clean bill of health following two inspections by the FEASSA Secretariat, which assessed competition venues, accommodation and other facilities required to host the event.
Speaking to The Respondent Online, the Director of Sports, Arts and Culture at the President’s Office–Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG), Mr Yusuph Singo, said Tanzania was now fully prepared for the games.
“The preparations have been completed and Tanzania is now waiting for the competition to begin,” Mr Singo said.
He said Tanzania’s participation this year would be significant, with the country fielding 1,510 students across all 23 disciplines a first in its FEASSA participation.
The large contingent, he added, reflects the government’s efforts to strengthen school sports and provide more students with opportunities to compete at regional level.
Mr Singo said hosting the games would also test Tanzania’s capacity to organise international sporting events while creating a platform for young athletes to gain competitive experience.
“This is an important opportunity to promote school sports, identify young talent and give students the exposure they need to develop their sporting abilities,” he said.
The games are expected to bring together students from primary and secondary schools across the EAC region, providing a platform for competition, interaction and the exchange of sporting experiences.
For Tanzania, the event comes as part of broader efforts to use school sports not only for recreation but also as a pathway for identifying and developing future athletes.
With venues and accommodation facilities ready and the national team comprising 1,510 students, attention now turns to the opening of the competition on August 12 in Morogoro.
