President Samia Suluhu Hassan has held talks with the President of the African Diaspora Development Institute (ADDI), Ambassador Arikana Chihombori-Quao, focusing on ways to strengthen cooperation between Tanzania, the African diaspora and the continent.
The two leaders met at State House in Dar es Salaam on Monday, August 24, 2026, where they discussed how Tanzania and ADDI could work together to harness the potential of Africans and people of African descent living abroad to support development across the continent.
A major focus of the meeting was youth empowerment, particularly the need to equip young Africans with a better understanding of the continent’s history, their role in development and the political and economic changes shaping the world.
President Samia said young people need relevant knowledge to help them understand the changing global environment and take an active role in shaping the future of their countries and Africa as a whole.
She also stressed the importance of instilling patriotism among young people while strengthening their understanding of citizenship, leadership, responsible use of information and participation in community and development activities.
The discussions also touched on the role of women in raising future generations, building communities, leadership, preserving African culture and passing on indigenous knowledge.
Ambassador Chihombori-Quao commended President Samia for her leadership and the development initiatives being implemented in Tanzania.
She said closer collaboration between African countries, ADDI and the diaspora could help unlock investment opportunities, facilitate knowledge transfer and promote a more positive global perception of Africa.
President Samia also commended Ambassador Chihombori-Quao for her longstanding efforts to advance Africa’s interests and strengthen ties between the continent and people of African descent living outside Africa.
The meeting comes as African countries continue to seek stronger engagement with the diaspora as a source of investment, expertise, innovation and networks that can contribute to the continent’s economic and social transformation.
