Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba has directed the Tanzania Agricultural Development Bank (TADB) to hold discussions with key government ministries on increasing the bank’s capital to expand financing for the country’s agriculture sector.
Dr. Nchemba issued the directive on Friday, August 1, 2026, during a visit to the TADB pavilion at the official opening of the 2026 National Farmers’ Day (Nane Nane) Exhibition held at the Dr John Malecela Grounds in Nzuguni, Dodoma.
The Prime Minister, who was accompanied by ministers responsible for finance, agriculture, and livestock and fisheries, said strengthening TADB’s financial capacity would enable the bank to provide greater support to farmers and agricultural investments across the country.
He also highlighted the need to increase domestic production of edible oils, noting that Tanzania spends about US$200 million annually importing cooking oil.
Dr Nchemba said boosting local edible oil production would help reduce reliance on imports, strengthen the domestic market, and generate more employment opportunities, particularly for young Tanzanians.
TADB Managing Director Frank Nyabundege said the bank has continued to implement its mandate of financing strategic projects aimed at transforming agriculture, livestock, and fisheries sectors.
He said TADB has so far provided more than TSh700 billion in financing for irrigation projects, while also supporting commercial crop production, including coffee farming through cooperative societies in Kagera and Kigoma regions.
TADB is the main sponsor of the 2026 Nane Nane Exhibition, which is being held under the theme: “Know Your Market; Increase Productivity to Achieve Vision 2050.”
The exhibition brings together farmers, investors, government institutions, and stakeholders to showcase innovations and opportunities aimed at improving productivity and accelerating transformation in Tanzania’s agricultural sector.
