The Nanenane exhibitions have emerged as an important platform for strengthening Tanzania’s mining sector by bringing government institutions closer to citizens, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Mining Commission, Engineer Aziza Swedi, has said.
Engineer Swedi said the exhibitions provide an opportunity for the Mining Commission and other institutions under the Ministry of Minerals to explain their services, showcase opportunities in the sector and obtain direct feedback from the public.
She made the remarks after touring exhibition booths operated by institutions under the Ministry of Minerals during the climax of the Nanenane exhibitions in Dodoma.
She said engaging directly with citizens was essential in identifying challenges affecting service delivery and developing measures to improve the efficiency of institutions responsible for managing the mining sector.
“Every question and issue raised by a citizen is important because it helps us identify areas that require improvement and enhance efficiency in service delivery,” Engineer Swedi said.
Her remarks highlight the growing importance of public engagement in a sector that contributes significantly to Tanzania’s economy, particularly through mineral production, investment, employment and government revenues.
Engineer Swedi said Nanenane also provides an avenue for strengthening cooperation between the Government, mining institutions and communities by ensuring that citizens have access to accurate information about mining activities and available opportunities.
During her visit, she toured exhibition booths operated by the Mining Commission, the State Mining Corporation (STAMICO) and the Geological Survey of Tanzania (GST).
She used the visit to assess the services being offered by the institutions and how effectively they were engaging with members of the public attending the exhibitions.
Engineer Swedi urged citizens to use Nanenane as an opportunity to seek information, raise concerns and provide feedback on the mining sector.
She also encouraged members of the public to visit the offices of the Mining Commission and other institutions under the Ministry of Minerals for further information and services related to mining activities.
The emphasis on public engagement comes as the Government seeks to improve service delivery and ensure that citizens are better informed about the opportunities and responsibilities associated with Tanzania’s mining sector.
