Unguja, Mwanza, Geita, Tabora, Dodoma and Dar es Salaam continued to stamp their authority at the ongoing Taifa Cup National Basketball Championship, emerging as the standout teams as the battle for places in the knockout stages intensifies at the Chinangali courts in Dodoma.
The latest standings released by the Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) Technical and Competitions Commissioner, Haleluya Kavalambi, show a tightly contested tournament, with several groups likely to be decided on points difference.
In the men's competition, Unguja tops Group A with 10 points after maintaining an unbeaten run, while Songwe is second on seven points. The two teams are separated by points and basket difference, underlining the competitiveness of the group.
Mwanza leads Group B with nine points, ahead of Pwani, which has seven points. Mara is also on seven points but occupies third place due to an inferior basket difference.
Geita has taken control of Group C with eight points, followed closely by hosts Dodoma on seven. Manyara remains in contention in third place with six points as the race for qualification gathers pace.
In Group D, Tabora sits at the summit with six points, while Kilimanjaro and Kigoma are level on five points, with basket difference separating the two sides.
The women's competition has been equally competitive, with several teams locked in close battles for top spots.
Tabora leads Group A, while Mara and Kigoma are tied on four points, their positions determined by basket difference.
Hosts Dodoma head Group B with six points. Pwani and Mwanza are tied on three points each, with scoring difference separating the two teams.
Dar es Salaam leads Group C with six points, but faces stiff competition from Manyara and Arusha, who also have six points. The standings are currently determined by basket difference.
The Taifa Cup, organised by the Tanzania Basketball Federation, has attracted regional teams from across the country and continues to provide a platform for identifying emerging basketball talent while showcasing the growing standard of the sport in Tanzania.
