Tanzania’s national women’s football team, Twiga Stars, has stepped up preparations ahead of their crucial second Group Stage match at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), with the team set to face Burkina Faso on July 31 in Morocco.
The Tanzanian side enters the encounter with confidence after making a strong start to the continental tournament, while Burkina Faso will be determined to bounce back after opening their campaign with a defeat.
Twiga Stars delegation leader Somoe Ng’itu said the team’s technical bench and players are fully focused on securing another positive result that would strengthen their chances of reaching the knockout stage.
Speaking from Morocco, Somoe said the victory over South Africa has lifted the team’s confidence but emphasized that the squad is aware of the need to improve in key areas ahead of the Burkina Faso clash.
“The win against South Africa has given the players more confidence, but we know there are areas where we still need to improve. We are working hard to ensure we perform better in our next match,” she said.
Somoe warned that Burkina Faso will pose a tough challenge, especially after losing their opening game and needing points to keep their tournament hopes alive.
“We know Burkina Faso will come into this match with a strong desire to recover from their first defeat. They will fight for a positive result, but we are equally prepared to make sure we do not give them opportunities and secure the outcome we need to move closer to the next stage,” she said.
She added that the match will be highly competitive as both teams battle for valuable points in their pursuit of qualification for the knockout rounds.
With the tournament reaching a decisive stage, Twiga Stars are banking on teamwork, discipline and the confidence gained from their opening performance as they seek another memorable result on the African stage.
